City’s first-quarter budget update shows big vacancies… again
Today, the City’s Budget Committee is reviewing spending, revenues and staffing for the first three months of 2016. Today’s update shows the City is already running a budget surplus but it also has over 3,000 vacant positions. High vacancies lead to pressure on service standards and higher stress on workers due to stress. Local 79 sent a briefing note to Councillors to draw their attention to this problem and we’re asking the Budget Committee to request a comprehensive workforce development plan to address the City’s chronic vacancy problem.
