Countdown to a big start to Spring

Spring TulipsWith the cool weather lingering this week, you may be longing for warmer summer days.

But rest assured, this coming Thursday, March 21st, is the first day of Spring, and we’re starting it off by helping social justice bloom! We hope you’ll join us for some of the following events.

Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage

First, we’ll be supporting the launch of the Workers Action Centre’s Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage with a rally at the Ministry of Labour office, 400 University Ave., Toronto — at 12:00 noon.

raiseminimumwageA third of Ontario children who live in poverty have one parent who works full-time. Raising the minimum wage to $14/hour would provide a pathway out of poverty for many of these families. Click here to read more about the campaign.

Win-movie-tickets contest!

Thursday is also the deadline for our movie-ticket contest. The contest question asked what recreation is, besides exercise, and the answer can be found in the first edition of the new Seventy-Niner. Send your contest entry to local79@cupelocal79.org.

Solidarity with Cafeteria workers at U of T

And finally, we’ll be rounding off the day supporting food service workers the University of Toronto with a rally at Queen’s Park Crescent East at 5:00 pm.
