For four years, City Council has been focused on cutting costs rather than making sure our communities have services they need. See which mayoral and council candidates have pledged to invest!
Investing in our communities
Across our city, communities have suffered as access to vital services was reduced or withdrawn.
For some it has meant that classes have been canceled at their local recreation centre. Others have had to wait longer to have their call answered by Toronto 311, or their request for a permit to be approved. There are fewer nurses and other health professionals at Toronto Public Health to support health in our communities.
It’s time to change this trend. This election, we can make a difference, by supporting those candidates who believe it’s time to invest in our communities and the services that make them strong.
We are calling on all candidates to sign a pledge and take two steps to refocus the budget on investing in our communities:
- End the dishonest cost-cutting practice of “gapping”, where staff aren’t hired to deliver the services promised in the budget, for sometimes up to two years!
- Forge a new model for budget development that begins by examining community priorities, and creates a budget to meet those needs.
