Today the City released its report of the Youth Employment Action Plan Advisory Committee. Local 79 is deeply committed to advocating for good stable jobs, especially for our young workers who are trying to build a life. We were disappointed that despite our willingness to participate on the Advisory Committee, Local 79 was not consulted as the representative for workers affected by work-based learning opportunities with the City.
Local 79 Treasurer Lily Chang, who is a City worker in Toronto’s Employment & Social Services Division, spoke to the Economic Development Committee about how the City can do a better job by hiring more youth, filling staff vacancies to provide the necessary supports for youth employment services, implementing its Job Quality Assessment Tool, and creating better employment opportunities and pathways for career advancement.
