Local 79 represents at Caribbean Carnival 2012

07 August 2012

Local 79 members from Bridgepoint provided breakfasts for the Caribbean Carnival crew.

Local 79 had a great time at the Toronto Caribbean Carnival again this year.

This year was extra special, as Local 79 facilitated the participation of 5 Toronto youth.

The welcome addition of 5 youth to celebrate and experience the parade to the fullest made Local 79’s participation even more fun.

Local 79 wanted to give youth the opportunity to have the whole experience of the most important and biggest event of the Caribana weekend – the Parade.

Local 79 provided the "Caribana" experience to a group of Toronto youth.

After donning their costumes at the union hall and eating a good breakfast our youthful revellers headed out to the Princess Gates at Exhibition Place to start the Parade.

There are lots of people to thank for getting youth involved in the Parade this year –

  • The Youth Outreach Workers at Parks, Forestry & Recreation who were able to put Local 79 in touch with youth who wanted to experience the Caribana Parade.
  • Bridgepoint Hospital for providing a good breakfast to give our youthful participants a good healthy start before the Parade.
  • Local 79 member, Eric Shilson was on hand throughout the Parade as the go-to person should our youth need assistance

The Chairs of Local 79 Toronto Caribbean Carnival Parade Events Committee, Linda Rose and Ainsworth Hamilton want to give a big thanks to Local 79 President Tim Maguire, the Executive, the Board and our membership for their enthusiastic support in encouraging the participation of youth in the Parade.
