Toronto's First Mayor Wows Crowds at City Festivals – Taste of the Danforth Next!

Chill with WillCUPE Local 79’s “Chill with Will” theatrical show will entertain visitors attending the Taste of the Danforth this weekend, August 9-11.

“It is apparent to me that Toronto has much to celebrate,” said William Lyon Mackenzie, the star of the show. “There is clean water piped into every house, and City ‘swim instructors’ teach kids not to drown at odd-smelling pools of water that seem to be everywhere…simply amazing!”

“Chill with Will” is the latest installment of CUPE Local 79’s “Taking Care of Toronto” public engagement campaign, which for three years has been connecting with thousands of Toronto residents in their communities through advertisements and events.

From the Dragon Boat Race Festival to Youth Day, “Chill with Will” has been entertaining festival-goers across Toronto all summer, while educating them about the value of City services and the workers who deliver them.

“It’s been a lot of fun this year,” commented Tim Maguire, President of CUPE Local 79. “We’ve had a great response to the show and great conversations with people about the work our members do to support their communities. We can’t wait to meet up with people at the Taste of the Danforth!”

Actors will perform scheduled shows at the “Chill with Will” tent at the Taste of the Danforth. Between shows, the troop will mingle with the crowd improvising humorous and informative dialogue, accompanied by banjo and singing.

Festival-goers can even win prizes, including iPad minis, by taking their picture with William Lyon Mackenzie and sending it to their friends through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Details are available at http://www.toronto79.com/chill-with-will.
