On Thursday, June 6th — United Way Canada recognized CUPE Local 79 at their “Thanks a Million” 2012 Toronto Award Breakfast. The acknowledgement honours corporations, employers and labour organizations who along with their members helped raise over a million dollars for the charity.
CUPE Local 79 was recognized for its charitable leadership in partnership with the City of Toronto.
This acknowledgment from United Way Canada comes on the heels of Local 79 winning two awards for charitable giving from United Way Toronto earlier this year.
In 2012, CUPE Local 79 supported United Way Toronto’s 2012 campaign launch and CN Tower Climb, fundraised through several special events, and actively encouraged members to donate through the employee payroll giving campaigns at the City of Toronto and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation.
CUPE Local 79’s relationship with the United Way grew even stronger in 2012, with Local 79 President Tim Maguire becoming part of the 2013 United Way Toronto Cabinet (see photo) and Local 79 Treasurer Lily Chang becoming a Board Member of the United Way Toronto.
