Local 79 President Tim Maguire is stepping up in this year’s United Way campaign as one more way to show that our members are taking care of Toronto.
Tim is a Labour Representative on United Way Toronto’s Campaign Cabinet, and at the City Employees’ United Way Toronto Campaign launch, Tim was named Co-Patron of the campaign. Take a look at his speech from the launch, in which he talks about the importance of supporting Toronto’s communities and the importance of management and labour working together.
Tim has adopted the adage, “From each according to ability, to each according to need,” as the theme for this year’s campaign – echoing the labour movements tradition of kicking in what we can for the good of the community. Labour was part of the founding of the United Way in 1956 and continues to do its part.
In October, Tim is upping the ante by participating in the Presidential Challenge of the CN Tower Climb for the United Way,where he’ll climb alongside corporate leaders to raise a minimum of $3000 (click here to pledge Tim‘s climb).
Then, on October 20th, Tim will lead the Local 79 team for the group CN Tower Challenge. (Click here to join our team!)
There’s also lots of spirit being brought to this year’s campaign. We made a video and posted it on YouTube — all to encourage you to come out and join the team!
