On Monday, February 11th, 2013, CUPE Local 79 and the City of Toronto co-hosted the 6th Annual Equity Symposium. This year’s theme focused on the important topic of mental health in the workplace, and took place in Council Chambers at Toronto City Hall.

We were pleased to receive Dr. Martin Shain as our keynote speaker, who holds an appointment with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.

Presentations and workshops on mental health in the workplace were also presented by Ken Stuebing, a partner at CaleyWray Labour and Employment Lawyers;  Omo Akintan, a labour and employment lawyer in the City of Toronto’s Legal Services Division; Cindy Rose, a registered nurse and has worked at Toronto Public Health; and Zulema Young, Stella Coady, Mary Villa, and Leah Deffett: WSIB/LTD/Benefits reps from CUPE Local 79.
