We take care of our city.

From the water you drink to the parks you love: if you live in Toronto, chances are that Local 79 members touch your life every day. And as living here gets tougher, we’re rising to meet the need for services that help our neighbours thrive. We know that’s worth it.

For the next generation.

Our members teach children critical skills at more than 55 City-operated early childhood learning centres. We nourish the kids in our care, preparing thousands of healthy meals each week. At rec centres, summer camps and pools across the city, more than 10,000 of us provide safe spaces for people of all ages to learn, play and build communities.

For those who need support.

You’ll find our nurses and PSWs at Bridgepoint Hospital and 10 long-term care homes around Toronto, providing compassionate care to seniors and Torontonians living with disabilities. We’re proud to deliver vital social services for vulnerable folks like at-risk youth, families who need a safe place to stay, and those experiencing mental illness. Whether at shelters or employment resource centres, we give people access to what they need to stand on their own.

For safer streets.

When emergencies happen, our members dispatch the right first response. We work with your favourite restaurants to ensure they’re sanitary, and we keep Toronto’s drinking water among the very best in the world. When buildings are constructed to code and safety standards are met, it’s because a Local 79 member was there at every step of the way.

For healthier communities.

From harm prevention strategies to front-line care, our members are a vital part of Toronto’s health. We tend to new moms and their little ones, and we help injured or sick neighbours get back to their lives through rehabilitation. We met the COVID-19 pandemic head on, and the immunizations we administer continue to protect our city from outbreaks.

For a city that works.

We solve thousands of everyday problems, answering questions and coordinating solutions when people call 311. At parks across the city, you’ll find our members working to keep Toronto green and accessible. We ensure mom and pop shops have what they need to stay in business, and as the city we love grows, we plan for a future that serves every Torontonian.
