Mourning the loss of Jack Layton
Statement from CUPE Local 79 President Ann Dembinski on the death of The Honourable Jack Layton, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada.
CUPE Local 79 is extremely saddened to learn of the death of Jack Layton, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition.
Canada has lost a great social democrat who fought tirelessly to improve the quality of life for all Canadians.
During Jack’s tenure both as a Toronto City Councillor and a Metro Councillor, he was always a staunch protector of municipal workers and strongly defended public services.
Jack’s energy, passion and commitment as a Toronto City Councillor, a Metro Councillor and as a national leader were truly inspirational.
On behalf of the membership of CUPE Local 79, I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to Olivia, Michael, Sarah and all members of Jack’s family.
