Today, members from CUPE Local 79, Toronto Public Library Workers Union (CUPE Local 4948) @local4948, the Toronto Zoo workers of CUPE Local 1600, and the Toronto Civic Employees’ Union (CUPE Local 416) @cupelocal416 came together to canvass and pull the vote for @oliviachow.

We met at @saratorontodanforth’s campaign office, picked up canvassing materials and signs, and headed out to talk with neighbours about a city where the public services workers deliver every day are protected and properly funded.

Advance polls are open until Sunday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and election day is Monday, October 26. Make a plan to vote, and bring a friend, a neighbour or a co-worker with you.
Local 79 is welcoming a new group of stewards who have stepped forward to represent their coworkers and are now going through steward training together. Stewards are often the first person a member turns to when something goes wrong at work, and every new steward means more workplaces where problems get raised early and more members ready to organize when it counts — making our union even stronger!
Local 79 members were out across Toronto at midnight on Oct. 1 putting up lawn signs for the candidates members chose to endorse. It’s one of the clearest examples of what worker power looks like during an election, with the people who keep this city running showing up in their own neighbourhoods to help decide who runs it.

Members built these endorsements from the ground up. It started with the vision they wrote together at the Toronto Workers Summit, continued through a town hall series where members questioned candidates directly, and ended with members voting on who earned their support. Now members are carrying that work through to election day by assembling signs, knocking on doors, and talking with neighbours about what a city built around strong public services could look like.
Sending our solidarity and respect for CUPE 1883 members who are fighting for stable public services in the Region of Waterloo. You are not alone. CUPE 79 stands with you – when we fight for ourselves as frontline public service workers, we are also fighting for our communities.
Yesterday, Local 79 members stood alongside Grassy Narrows First Nation, joining thousands in the streets of Toronto for River Run 2026, walking alongside youth and community members who travelled from northwestern Ontario to demand mercury justice.

For more than half a century, the people of Grassy Narrows have lived with the consequences of mercury dumped into their river by the Dryden mill upstream, and they are still waiting for Ontario and Canada to compensate them fairly and end the pollution and industrial threats to their territory. We stand with them for as long as this fight takes.
