CUPE Local 79 joined the @ontario.nurses’ picket line this morning in solidarity with ONA members on strike at North York Family Health Team.

They’re fighting for a fair first contract and respect for the vital care they provide to their community. We stand together.

This morning, Local 79 museum workers took their fight for fairness straight to City Hall. For over 20 years since amalgamation, the City has saved money through a misclassification of museum workers — denying them sick pay, vacation days, and other basic workplace rights.

Members from the Economic and Community Development Division met with Councillor Neethan Shan and Committee Chair Councillor Alejandra Bravo to deliver our demands that these workers be reclassified directly to decision-makers.

We invited Councillors who sit on the Committee to meet with workers and walk through Fort York and other museum sites to better understand their work.

Local 79 is calling for this issue to be resolved before the end of 2025, with full inclusion of museum workers in Unit B in the 2026 City budget.

Shout-out to members of Local 79’s Political Action Committee for helping elect @neethan to City Council in Monday’s by-election! The Committee brought together members to canvass and pull the vote, joining a community of activists to bring Neethan Shan’s progressive voice to City Hall.
