CUPE Local 79 President Nas Yadollahi spoke with @torontotoday.ca about hybrid work at the City, after Premier Ford asked municipalities to recall all employees to the office 5 days a week.

Yadollahi insisted that hybrid work is working well — services are being delivered effectively and the City has saved $335 million while reducing office space and freeing up land for housing.

Local 79 will continue to push for fair and flexible work arrangements that benefit both workers and Toronto.
CUPE Local 79 members joined @aircanadacomponent flight attendants at Pearson Airport today in a powerful show of solidarity. After the federal government legislated them back to work, CUPE National President Mark Hancock ripped up the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) order, declaring that flight attendants will stay on strike until @aircanada comes to the table with a fair deal. This act of defiance is a powerful reminder that workers — not governments or corporations — decide when our fight for fairness is over. Solidarity forever!
Statement: CUPE Local 79 calls on labour movement to resist government’s strikebreaking

CUPE Local 79 condemns the federal government’s decision to order Air Canada flight attendants back to work and impose binding arbitration. This is a direct attack on the right to strike — a fundamental tool workers rely on to achieve fairness.

Flight attendants perform vital safety work both in the air and on the ground, much of it unpaid. Their strike was a legitimate stand for respect and recognition against an employer that pays poverty wages and raked in over $2 billion in profits last year. Yet instead of bargaining in good faith, the employer turned to government intervention. By siding with Air Canada, the federal government has once again undermined free collective bargaining, just as it did with rail and postal workers. This is blatant hypocrisy from a government that preaches “elbows up” for workers while using its own elbows to push them down.

This pattern cannot continue. The entire labour movement must take a stand against this assault on our rights. An attack on one group of workers is an attack on us all.
Over 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants, represented by @cupe_scfp, are on the verge of a strike or facing a lockout after rejecting a deal that fails to keep up with inflation or reflect the realities of their work. One of their biggest issues is that they aren’t paid for essential duties before and after flights — like boarding passengers, safety checks, and post-flight tasks — amounting to an average of 35 unpaid hours each month. These workers keep us safe and deserve to be paid for every moment they’re on the job. Let’s urge @aircanada to come to a fair agreement. Solidarity with @aircanadacomponent!
Sixty-six Local 79 members hit Lakeshore as part of the Toronto Revellers’ “Celestia” section in the Grand Parade of the 2025 Toronto Caribbean Carnival on Saturday, August 2nd.

Members danced, celebrated, and soaked in the joy of Caribbean culture!
