Battle of the Wages: Who gets paid more, public or private sector workers?

Yesterday, workers from Toronto Community Housing and Toronto Seniors Housing voted overwhelmingly to give their bargaining committees a strike mandate.  
- 98% in favour at TCHC - 94% in favour at TSHC

For too long, workers have faced escalating violence, chronic understaffing, and employers that refuse to take action. Members are saying enough is enough.

As Local 79 President Nas Yadollahi said at today’s press conference: “When violence and understaffing become the norm, everyone pays the price — workers, tenants, and seniors alike.”

Local 79 has now filed for a no-board report, starting the countdown to possible strike action if employers don’t come to the table with a fair deal that prioritizes safety and respect.

Local 79 members at Toronto Community Housing (@torontohousing) and Toronto Seniors Housing (TSHC) are voting Wednesday and Thursday on whether to give their bargaining teams a strike mandate.
